Danube Cultural Conference in Pécs https://en.woman.danube-stories.eu/2017/11/26/danube-cultural-confernce-in-pecs/ https://en.woman.danube-stories.eu/2017/11/26/danube-cultural-confernce-in-pecs/#respond Sun, 26 Nov 2017 17:49:12 +0000 https://en.woman.danube-stories.eu/?p=1361 Alternative city tours on women’s issues

At a cultural conference within the framework of the EU Danube Region Strategy called CultPlatForm_21, the publisher of the magazine danube connects, which appears in Ulm, has presented a new project.

It will be about the networking of women’s issues along the Danube, and “adresses especially young women to encourage them to find their own personal way,” as Sabine Geller said at the meeting in southern Hungary in Pécs.

A special app for discovering important women of the city of Ulm will be developed and a book will be prepared on the subject – both will be presented at the International Danube Festival in Ulm in July next year.

Currently in preparation is an idea exchange and networking for alternative city tours between in Ulm/New-Ulm, Vienna, Novi Sad, Budapest and Timisoara.
For example an interesting connection between Ulm and Novi Sad is that Albert Einstein, born in Ulm was married with Mileva Maric from Novi Sad.

In Ulm, students of the St. Hildegard-Gymnasium were already involved in the project. Together with students of the University of Applied Sciences Neu-Ulm, an exhibition will be designed and an app developed to get more information about outstanding women in the respective cities. The first practical test is on World Women’s Day on 8 March 2018. In parallel, actions are planned with students in Novi Sad and Timisoara.

The project named “Danube Women City Guide” is supported by the Baden-Württemberg-Stiftung. Project partners are the Center for General Scientific Continuing Education (ZAWiW)at Ulm University, The World of NGO’s from Vienna, the Walkshop in Budapest, the Journalism School in Novi Sad and the Asociatia Pro Democatia in Bucharest.

Kick-off in Vienna https://en.woman.danube-stories.eu/2017/06/01/kick-off-in-vienna/ Thu, 01 Jun 2017 12:41:02 +0000 https://en.woman.danube-stories.eu/?p=1086 Prior to the occasion of the European Day on 9 of May the European project DANUBE WOMEN CITY GUIDE was launched in Vienna, laying the foundation for more visibility of women in history and present time in the Danube Region.

The event was assembling a team of scientists, civil society experts and media professionals from Germany, Austria, Hungary, Serbia and Romania, who will work together for the next years to research, edit and publish a European tour guide focusing on women personalities in cities and towns along the river Danube. The project is led by the University of Ulm and financially supported by the Baden Württemberg Foundation.

Tamara Zelenović Vasiljević, Chief Operating Officer of the ‘Foundation Novi Sad 2021’ and Vuk Radulović, Manager of the Foundation’s Sector for International Cooperation, joined the kick-off meeting; the Foundation is managing the preparation and implementation of the ‘European Capital of Culture’ in 2021 and highly interested in this new Danubian project because the topic of women’s visibility has been a strong point in the focus of the candidacy for this prestigious title for cities.
“We are ready to network in the Danube region and support this project with our cooperation. It is so important to save the heritage of women in the Danube region, especially the cultural heritage and arts. It is essential to encourage better positions of women as artists and cultural leaders in art.” The European exchange will also talk about the consequences of the war which happened around the turn of the millennium and discuss the position of women as civilians in NoviSad.
“We want to bring guided women city tours to NoviSad; we want to get informed to prepare for our own projects”, Vuk Radulović says. The outcomes of the European exchange could feed for example the famous initiative “DanubiaNS”, a beautiful promenade along the river bank of the Danube informing about interesting in Danubian cities.

About us https://en.woman.danube-stories.eu/2017/05/04/abut-us/ Thu, 04 May 2017 12:22:48 +0000 https://danube-women.forschendes-lernen.de/?p=36 Who are we, the project partners? It all started with SABINE from Ulm and CHRISTIANA from Vienna, sitting in Stockholm outside a lovely riverside-bar, drinking wine and dreaming about a city guidebook especially made from the perspective of women. Which places would be interesting to visit? What kind of untold stories of women are hidden in the history of a town?

The dreaming went on in Austria, at a European Gender Equality Conference in St.Pölten. Here ANNA from Hungary joined and brought with her a basket full of experiences about city walks including hidden beauty and shady sides. The group was growing with MARINA from Serbia joined and IULIANA from Romania. Finally MARKUS and BELINDA at the University of Ulm took over the coordination of the dreaming project and with a little bit of help of the Baden-Württemberg Foundation the project idea started to take form.

So now here it is. A tiny little dream became true and it is now waiting for you to take it further and to join the excitement of getting connecting!
